We have a long track record of working with academics, researchers and students.
Over the years, we have developed strong relationships with many universities. This has included: being partners and stakeholders on research projects, being interviewees, co-funding student dissertations and theses, hosting student placements, employing recent graduates, academically evaluating our projects, co-authoring academic papers, giving guest lectures, and presenting at conferences. We are keen to build on and develop our links with academic partners.

The Mersey Forest Ideas Lab was established in 2024, with academic partners and researchers, as a new centre of excellence for environmental research and innovation. It facilitates collaboration between researchers and other stakeholders within The Mersey Forest. The premise is to make use of The Mersey Forest as a Living Laboratory, with academic partners seeing the impact of their research in helping us to innovate, learn, test and improve our ongoing practice. Together, we can improve the value of our work for people, nature, and climate.

We are happy to assist students where we can. This includes through supporting student projects and hosting paid student placements. We can suggest project ideas that are of interest to us, and discuss your own projects and requests for information, as well student placement opportunities.

Please get in touch if you can’t find the information you are after on our website, to discuss project ideas and paid student placement opportunities, or to get involved with our Ideas Lab. If you would like our input to a student project, then please include a summary of your research, your university, and the name and e-mail address of your supervisor. For any student projects that we help with, we would welcome: an email to acknowledge any information we send to you, a reference to our involvement in the final report, and a digital copy of the final report.
